NUWARA ELIYA

Nuwara eliya, located at an altitude of 1868m (6128 ft) variously described as the CITY OF LIGHT or as CITY ON THE PLAIN offers visitors as soothingly cool climate,clean moist air,mistladen mountain views,green grassy meadows,vividly-colored followers,cascading waterhalls and of course the world-renowned tea. Folk lore has it that in the days prior to the brstrict was known for a substantial elephant population.

In the backdrop of the city with a colonial history,colonial archi-tracture and a colonial way of life,there are many things that happen away from the beaten track ,away from the view of the coventional visitors,but contributing to sustenance of life of unseen many,the perfecty different kind of experience,a three dimensional view of nature man and the bounty, with out compromising any of the elements that have enchanted maillions over the years.

The city was founded by samuel baker, the explorer of the nile in 1846 and flourished as the summer retreat of the british in sri lanka. due its mild climate. At prasent the city dons its festive attire during april the season of flowers,pony races,go cart races and auto rally. Many of the buildings such as the queen's kueen's cottage, general's house, grand hotel, hill clib, town post office retain features from the colonial perioud and even many private homes still mainrain theirold english-style lawns and gardens.

Holy trinity church was built in 1845 to resemble canterbury church of england. The arinity church are breathtaking. On good friday and easter of 1954 queen elizabeth and prince philip, the duke of edinburgh, attended services in this church. Nuwaraeliya is well geraed to receiving visitors, with a good selection of facilities and services aimed at visitors from both domestic and overseas destinations. Accommodation choices are plentiful.
